CVSS v3.1 |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
bpf: Cancel the running bpf_timer through kworker for PREEMPT_RT
During the update procedure, when overwrite element in a pre-allocated
htab, the freeing of old_element is protected by the bucket lock. The
reason why the bucket lock is necessary is that the old_element has
already been stashed in htab->extra_elems after alloc_htab_elem()
returns. If freeing the old_element after the bucket lock is unlocked,
the stashed element may be reused by concurrent update procedure and the
freeing of old_element will run concurrently with the reuse of the
old_element. However, the invocation of check_and_free_fields() may
acquire a spin-lock which violates the lockdep rule because its caller
has already held a raw-spin-lock (bucket lock). The following warning
will be reported when such race happens:

It seems feasible to break the reuse and refill of per-cpu extra_elems
into two independent parts: reuse the per-cpu extra_elems with bucket
lock being held and refill the old_element as per-cpu extra_elems after
the bucket lock is unlocked. However, it will make the concurrent
overwrite procedures on the same CPU return unexpected -E2BIG error when
the map is full.
Therefore, the patch fixes the lock problem by breaking the cancelling
of bpf_timer into two steps for PREEMPT_RT:
1) use hrtimer_try_to_cancel() and check its return value
2) if the timer is running, use hrtimer_cancel() through a kworker to
cancel it again
Considering that the current implementation of hrtimer_cancel() will try
to acquire a being held softirq_expiry_lock when the current timer is
running, these steps above are reasonable. However, it also has
downside. When the timer is running, the cancelling of the timer is
delayed when releasing the last map uref. The delay is also fixable
(e.g., break the cancelling of bpf timer into two parts: one part in
locked scope, another one in unlocked scope), it can be revised later if
necessary.
It is a bit hard to decide the right fix tag. One reason is that the
problem depends on PREEMPT_RT which is enabled in v6.12. Considering the
softirq_expiry_lock lock exists since v5.4 and bpf_timer is introduced
in v5.15, the bpf_timer commit is used in the fixes tag and an extra
depends-on tag is added to state the dependency on PREEMPT_RT.
Depends-on: v6.12+ with PREEMPT_RT enabled |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ext4: avoid journaling sb update on error if journal is destroying
Presently we always BUG_ON if trying to start a transaction on a journal marked
with JBD2_UNMOUNT, since this should never happen. However, while ltp running
stress tests, it was observed that in case of some error handling paths, it is
possible for update_super_work to start a transaction after the journal is
destroyed eg:
(umount)
ext4_kill_sb
kill_block_super
generic_shutdown_super
sync_filesystem /* commits all txns */
evict_inodes
/* might start a new txn */
ext4_put_super
flush_work(&sbi->s_sb_upd_work) /* flush the workqueue */
jbd2_journal_destroy
journal_kill_thread
journal->j_flags |= JBD2_UNMOUNT;
jbd2_journal_commit_transaction
jbd2_journal_get_descriptor_buffer
jbd2_journal_bmap
ext4_journal_bmap
ext4_map_blocks
...
ext4_inode_error
ext4_handle_error
schedule_work(&sbi->s_sb_upd_work)
/* work queue kicks in */
update_super_work
jbd2_journal_start
start_this_handle
BUG_ON(journal->j_flags &
JBD2_UNMOUNT)
Hence, introduce a new mount flag to indicate journal is destroying and only do
a journaled (and deferred) update of sb if this flag is not set. Otherwise, just
fallback to an un-journaled commit.
Further, in the journal destroy path, we have the following sequence:
1. Set mount flag indicating journal is destroying
2. force a commit and wait for it
3. flush pending sb updates
This sequence is important as it ensures that, after this point, there is no sb
update that might be journaled so it is safe to update the sb outside the
journal. (To avoid race discussed in 2d01ddc86606)
Also, we don't need a similar check in ext4_grp_locked_error since it is only
called from mballoc and AFAICT it would be always valid to schedule work here. |

mm/huge_memory: avoid PMD-size page cache if needed
xarray can't support arbitrary page cache size. the largest and supported
page cache size is defined as MAX_PAGECACHE_ORDER by commit 099d90642a71
("mm/filemap: make MAX_PAGECACHE_ORDER acceptable to xarray"). However,
it's possible to have 512MB page cache in the huge memory's collapsing

breaking the limitation and a warning is raised when the xarray entry is

drm/amdgpu: change vm->task_info handling
This patch changes the handling and lifecycle of vm->task_info object.
The major changes are:
- vm->task_info is a dynamically allocated ptr now, and its uasge is
reference counted.
- introducing two new helper funcs for task_info lifecycle management
- amdgpu_vm_get_task_info: reference counts up task_info before
returning this info
- amdgpu_vm_put_task_info: reference counts down task_info
- last put to task_info() frees task_info from the vm.
This patch also does logistical changes required for existing usage
of vm->task_info.
V2: Do not block all the prints when task_info not found (Felix)
V3: Fixed review comments from Felix
- Fix wrong indentation
- No debug message for -ENOMEM
- Add NULL check for task_info
- Do not duplicate the debug messages (ti vs no ti)
- Get first reference of task_info in vm_init(), put last
in vm_fini()
V4: Fixed review comments from Felix
- fix double reference increment in create_task_info
- change amdgpu_vm_get_task_info_pasid
- additional changes in amdgpu_gem.c while porting |

| Akamai GPA (Guardicore Platform Agent) client on all platforms before 7.4 improperly validates JWT tokens used for seeding. By convincing a user to interact with a malicious link, an attacker can use a spoofed JWT token to inject arbitrary parameters into the client software, resulting in unauthorized reconfiguration and full compromise of the application's functionality. This attack can also be targeted against an already seeded client if the attacker knows the URL of the IDP that the client used for enrollment. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
nfsd: allow SC_STATUS_FREEABLE when searching via nfs4_lookup_stateid()
The pynfs DELEG8 test fails when run against nfsd. It acquires a
delegation and then lets the lease time out. It then tries to use the
deleg stateid and expects to see NFS4ERR_DELEG_REVOKED, but it gets
bad NFS4ERR_BAD_STATEID instead.
When a delegation is revoked, it's initially marked with
SC_STATUS_REVOKED, or SC_STATUS_ADMIN_REVOKED and later, it's marked
with the SC_STATUS_FREEABLE flag, which denotes that it is waiting for
s FREE_STATEID call.
nfs4_lookup_stateid() accepts a statusmask that includes the status
flags that a found stateid is allowed to have. Currently, that mask
never includes SC_STATUS_FREEABLE, which means that revoked delegations
are (almost) never found.
Add SC_STATUS_FREEABLE to the always-allowed status flags, and remove it
from nfsd4_delegreturn() since it's now always implied. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
sunrpc: handle SVC_GARBAGE during svc auth processing as auth error
tianshuo han reported a remotely-triggerable crash if the client sends a
kernel RPC server a specially crafted packet. If decoding the RPC reply
fails in such a way that SVC_GARBAGE is returned without setting the
rq_accept_statp pointer, then that pointer can be dereferenced and a
value stored there.
If it's the first time the thread has processed an RPC, then that
pointer will be set to NULL and the kernel will crash. In other cases,
it could create a memory scribble.
The server sunrpc code treats a SVC_GARBAGE return from svc_authenticate
or pg_authenticate as if it should send a GARBAGE_ARGS reply. RFC 5531
says that if authentication fails that the RPC should be rejected
instead with a status of AUTH_ERR.
Handle a SVC_GARBAGE return as an AUTH_ERROR, with a reason of
AUTH_BADCRED instead of returning GARBAGE_ARGS in that case. This
sidesteps the whole problem of touching the rpc_accept_statp pointer in
this situation and avoids the crash. |

net/mlx5e: kTLS, Fix incorrect page refcounting
The kTLS tx handling code is using a mix of get_page() and
page_ref_inc() APIs to increment the page reference. But on the release
path (mlx5e_ktls_tx_handle_resync_dump_comp()), only put_page() is used.
This is an issue when using pages from large folios: the get_page()
references are stored on the folio page while the page_ref_inc()
references are stored directly in the given page. On release the folio
page will be dereferenced too many times.
This was found while doing kTLS testing with sendfile() + ZC when the
served file was read from NFS on a kernel with NFS large folios support
(commit 49b29a573da8 ("nfs: add support for large folios")). |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
KVM: VMX: Bury Intel PT virtualization (guest/host mode) behind CONFIG_BROKEN
Hide KVM's pt_mode module param behind CONFIG_BROKEN, i.e. disable support
for virtualizing Intel PT via guest/host mode unless BROKEN=y. There are
myriad bugs in the implementation, some of which are fatal to the guest,
and others which put the stability and health of the host at risk.
For guest fatalities, the most glaring issue is that KVM fails to ensure
tracing is disabled, and *stays* disabled prior to VM-Enter, which is
necessary as hardware disallows loading (the guest's) RTIT_CTL if tracing
is enabled (enforced via a VMX consistency check). Per the SDM:
If the logical processor is operating with Intel PT enabled (if
IA32_RTIT_CTL.TraceEn = 1) at the time of VM entry, the "load
IA32_RTIT_CTL" VM-entry control must be 0.
On the host side, KVM doesn't validate the guest CPUID configuration
provided by userspace, and even worse, uses the guest configuration to
decide what MSRs to save/load at VM-Enter and VM-Exit. E.g. configuring
guest CPUID to enumerate more address ranges than are supported in hardware
will result in KVM trying to passthrough, save, and load non-existent MSRs,
which generates a variety of WARNs, ToPA ERRORs in the host, a potential
deadlock, etc. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
arm64/sve: Discard stale CPU state when handling SVE traps
The logic for handling SVE traps manipulates saved FPSIMD/SVE state
incorrectly, and a race with preemption can result in a task having
TIF_SVE set and TIF_FOREIGN_FPSTATE clear even though the live CPU state
is stale (e.g. with SVE traps enabled). This has been observed to result
in warnings from do_sve_acc() where SVE traps are not expected while
TIF_SVE is set:
| if (test_and_set_thread_flag(TIF_SVE))
| WARN_ON(1); /* SVE access shouldn't have trapped */
Warnings of this form have been reported intermittently, e.g.
https://lore.kernel.org/linux-arm-kernel/CA+G9fYtEGe_DhY2Ms7+L7NKsLYUomGsgqpdBj+QwDLeSg=JhGg@mail.gmail.com/
https://lore.kernel.org/linux-arm-kernel/000000000000511e9a060ce5a45c@google.com/
The race can occur when the SVE trap handler is preempted before and
after manipulating the saved FPSIMD/SVE state, starting and ending on
the same CPU, e.g.
| void do_sve_acc(unsigned long esr, struct pt_regs *regs)
| {
| // Trap on CPU 0 with TIF_SVE clear, SVE traps enabled
| // task->fpsimd_cpu is 0.
| // per_cpu_ptr(&fpsimd_last_state, 0) is task.
|
| ...
|
| // Preempted; migrated from CPU 0 to CPU 1.
| // TIF_FOREIGN_FPSTATE is set.
|
| get_cpu_fpsimd_context();
|
| if (test_and_set_thread_flag(TIF_SVE))
| WARN_ON(1); /* SVE access shouldn't have trapped */
|
| sve_init_regs() {
| if (!test_thread_flag(TIF_FOREIGN_FPSTATE)) {
| ...
| } else {
| fpsimd_to_sve(current);
| current->thread.fp_type = FP_STATE_SVE;
| }
| }
|
| put_cpu_fpsimd_context();
|
| // Preempted; migrated from CPU 1 to CPU 0.
| // task->fpsimd_cpu is still 0
| // If per_cpu_ptr(&fpsimd_last_state, 0) is still task then:
| // - Stale HW state is reused (with SVE traps enabled)
| // - TIF_FOREIGN_FPSTATE is cleared
| // - A return to userspace skips HW state restore
| }
Fix the case where the state is not live and TIF_FOREIGN_FPSTATE is set
by calling fpsimd_flush_task_state() to detach from the saved CPU
state. This ensures that a subsequent context switch will not reuse the
stale CPU state, and will instead set TIF_FOREIGN_FPSTATE, forcing the
new state to be reloaded from memory prior to a return to userspace. |

The above transcript shows that ACPI pointed a 16 MiB buffer for the log
events because RSI maps to the 'order' parameter of __alloc_pages_noprof().
Address the bug by moving from devm_kmalloc() to devm_add_action() and
kvmalloc() and devm_add_action(). |

bpf: Fix overloading of MEM_UNINIT's meaning
Lonial reported an issue in the BPF verifier where check_mem_size_reg()
has the following code:
if (!tnum_is_const(reg->var_off))
/* For unprivileged variable accesses, disable raw
* mode so that the program is required to
* initialize all the memory that the helper could
* just partially fill up.
*/
meta = NULL;
This means that writes are not checked when the register containing the
size of the passed buffer has not a fixed size. Through this bug, a BPF
program can write to a map which is marked as read-only, for example,
.rodata global maps.
The problem is that MEM_UNINIT's initial meaning that "the passed buffer
to the BPF helper does not need to be initialized" which was added back
in commit 435faee1aae9 ("bpf, verifier: add ARG_PTR_TO_RAW_STACK type")
got overloaded over time with "the passed buffer is being written to".
The problem however is that checks such as the above which were added later
via 06c1c049721a ("bpf: allow helpers access to variable memory") set meta
to NULL in order force the user to always initialize the passed buffer to
the helper. Due to the current double meaning of MEM_UNINIT, this bypasses
verifier write checks to the memory (not boundary checks though) and only
assumes the latter memory is read instead.
Fix this by reverting MEM_UNINIT back to its original meaning, and having
MEM_WRITE as an annotation to BPF helpers in order to then trigger the
BPF verifier checks for writing to memory.
Some notes: check_arg_pair_ok() ensures that for ARG_CONST_SIZE{,_OR_ZERO}
we can access fn->arg_type[arg - 1] since it must contain a preceding
ARG_PTR_TO_MEM. For check_mem_reg() the meta argument can be removed
altogether since we do check both BPF_READ and BPF_WRITE. Same for the
equivalent check_kfunc_mem_size_reg(). |

ipv4: Fix uninit-value access in __ip_make_skb()
KMSAN reported uninit-value access in __ip_make_skb() [1]. __ip_make_skb()
tests HDRINCL to know if the skb has icmphdr. However, HDRINCL can cause a
race condition. If calling setsockopt(2) with IP_HDRINCL changes HDRINCL
while __ip_make_skb() is running, the function will access icmphdr in the
skb even if it is not included. This causes the issue reported by KMSAN.
Check FLOWI_FLAG_KNOWN_NH on fl4->flowi4_flags instead of testing HDRINCL
on the socket.
Also, fl4->fl4_icmp_type and fl4->fl4_icmp_code are not initialized. These
are union in struct flowi4 and are implicitly initialized by
flowi4_init_output(), but we should not rely on specific union layout.
Initialize these explicitly in raw_sendmsg().
