CVSS v3.1 |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
drbd: fix "LOGIC BUG" in drbd_al_begin_io_nonblock()
Even though we check that we "should" be able to do lc_get_cumulative()
while holding the device->al_lock spinlock, it may still fail,
if some other code path decided to do lc_try_lock() with bad timing.
If that happened, we logged "LOGIC BUG for enr=...",
but still did not return an error.
The rest of the code now assumed that this request has references
for the relevant activity log extents.
The implcations are that during an active resync, mutual exclusivity of
resync versus application IO is not guaranteed. And a potential crash
at this point may not realizs that these extents could have been target
of in-flight IO and would need to be resynced just in case.
Also, once the request completes, it will give up activity log references it
does not even hold, which will trigger a BUG_ON(refcnt == 0) in lc_put().
Fix:
Do not crash the kernel for a condition that is harmless during normal
operation: also catch "e->refcnt == 0", not only "e == NULL"
when being noisy about "al_complete_io() called on inactive extent %u\n".
And do not try to be smart and "guess" whether something will work, then
be surprised when it does not.
Deal with the fact that it may or may not work. If it does not, remember a
possible "partially in activity log" state (only possible for requests that
cross extent boundaries), and return an error code from
drbd_al_begin_io_nonblock().
A latter call for the same request will then resume from where we left off. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
fs: relax assertions on failure to encode file handles
Encoding file handles is usually performed by a filesystem >encode_fh()
method that may fail for various reasons.
The legacy users of exportfs_encode_fh(), namely, nfsd and
name_to_handle_at(2) syscall are ready to cope with the possibility
of failure to encode a file handle.
There are a few other users of exportfs_encode_{fh,fid}() that
currently have a WARN_ON() assertion when ->encode_fh() fails.
Relax those assertions because they are wrong.
The second linked bug report states commit 16aac5ad1fa9 ("ovl: support
encoding non-decodable file handles") in v6.6 as the regressing commit,
but this is not accurate.
The aforementioned commit only increases the chances of the assertion
and allows triggering the assertion with the reproducer using overlayfs,
inotify and drop_caches.
Triggering this assertion was always possible with other filesystems and
other reasons of ->encode_fh() failures and more particularly, it was
also possible with the exact same reproducer using overlayfs that is
mounted with options index=on,nfs_export=on also on kernels < v6.6.
Therefore, I am not listing the aforementioned commit as a Fixes commit.
Backport hint: this patch will have a trivial conflict applying to
v6.6.y, and other trivial conflicts applying to stable kernels < v6.6. |
| D-Bus before 1.15.6 sometimes allows unprivileged users to crash dbus-daemon. If a privileged user with control over the dbus-daemon is using the org.freedesktop.DBus.Monitoring interface to monitor message bus traffic, then an unprivileged user with the ability to connect to the same dbus-daemon can cause a dbus-daemon crash under some circumstances via an unreplyable message. When done on the well-known system bus, this is a denial-of-service vulnerability. The fixed versions are 1.12.28, 1.14.8, and 1.15.6. |
| In OpenLDAP through 2.4.57 and 2.5.x through 2.5.1alpha, an assertion failure in slapd can occur in the issuerAndThisUpdateCheck function via a crafted packet, resulting in a denial of service (daemon exit) via a short timestamp. This is related to schema_init.c and checkTime. |
| The iconv function in the GNU C Library (aka glibc or libc6) 2.32 and earlier, when processing invalid input sequences in the ISO-2022-JP-3 encoding, fails an assertion in the code path and aborts the program, potentially resulting in a denial of service. |
| A flaw was discovered in OpenLDAP before 2.4.57 leading in an assertion failure in slapd in the X.509 DN parsing in decode.c ber_next_element, resulting in denial of service. |
| A flaw was discovered in OpenLDAP before 2.4.57 leading to an assertion failure in slapd in the saslAuthzTo validation, resulting in denial of service. |
| The iconv function in the GNU C Library (aka glibc or libc6) 2.30 to 2.32, when converting UCS4 text containing an irreversible character, fails an assertion in the code path and aborts the program, potentially resulting in a denial of service. |
| A flaw was found in OpenLDAP in versions before 2.4.56. This flaw allows an attacker who sends a malicious packet processed by OpenLDAP to force a failed assertion in csnNormalize23(). The highest threat from this vulnerability is to system availability. |
| A flaw was found in OpenLDAP. This flaw allows an attacker who can send a malicious packet to be processed by OpenLDAP’s slapd server, to trigger an assertion failure. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to system availability. |
| Gitoxide gix-pack before 0.75.0 contains a denial of service vulnerability that allows malicious remotes to crash fetch operations by sending crafted thin-pack OFS_DELTA entries. Attackers can serve a thin pack with a REF_DELTA referencing an existing object followed by an OFS_DELTA whose base_distance exceeds pack_offset, triggering a panic in LookupRefDeltaObjectsIter that aborts the fetch process. |
| FreeRDP 3.11.0 before 3.32.1 contains a reachable assertion vulnerability in urb_isoch_transfer that allows malicious RDP servers to crash clients by sending unvalidated OutputBufferSize values. Attackers can send a TS_URB_ISOCH_TRANSFER IN-direction request with OutputBufferSize above INT32_MAX over URBDRC, triggering an assertion in libusb_udev_isoch_transfer that terminates the client. |
| RIOT is an open-source microcontroller operating system designed for Internet of Things devices and other embedded systems. From version 2023.07 through version 2026.07, nanocoap_fileserver callers in sys/net/application_layer/nanocoap/fileserver.c ignore a failure returned by _resp_init() when coap_build_reply() cannot fit a response header into the response buffer. A remote client can send a CoAP request with a sufficiently large extended token when nanocoap_token_ext is enabled, causing response initialization to fail while _get_file() or _get_directory() continues with stale response state. The path then reaches _calc_szx2() and its pdu->payload_len > reserve assertion, terminating the affected service or device task. No fixed release is available as of this review. |
| A security issue was discovered in MongoDB mongos (the sharded cluster router) where an authenticated user with readWrite privileges could crash the mongos process by crafting a specially formed aggregation pipeline. The issue leverages an internal aggregation stage that lacks proper authorization checks despite being intended for internal use, allowing a subsequent stage to be forced to execute on the router under conditions it was not designed to handle. This results in an unhandled fatal error that causes the mongos process to immediately abort, resulting in denial of service for all clients routed through the affected mongos instance. |
| FreeRDP 3.0.0 before 3.32.0 does not remove card handles when Emulate_SCardReleaseContext releases a smartcard-emulation context, so Emulate_SCardTransmit later looks up the deleted parent context and reaches a terminating WINPR_ASSERT. A malicious RDP server can crash a connecting client with smartcard emulation and redirection enabled by releasing a context, establishing another, and issuing SCardTransmit with the stale card handle. |
| ZcashFoundation Zebra 6.4.0 before 6.4.2 parses version 6 transactions carrying a pre-NU6.3 consensus branch ID, but the size computation during UnminedTx construction treats re-serialization of the Orchard bundle as infallible, so the resulting error trips an expect that aborts zebrad. Unauthenticated peers can send a single pre-handshake tx message to crash the node, and can repeat this after each restart. |
| gitoxide gix-pack before 0.75.0 contains a reachable assertion in BytesToEntriesIter::new_from_header: the pack header decoder accepts version 3, but a release-enabled assert_eq! requires version 2. A malicious remote can send a 12-byte pack header declaring version 3 to panic the client and abort the clone or fetch. |
| FreeRDP 3.0.0-beta1 before 3.32.0, when built with verbose WinPR assertions and using smartcard emulation, has a reachable assertion: the emulated SCardStatusA passes a NULL reader-name destination to scard_copy_strings. A malicious RDP server can send an SCardStatusA request with fmszReaderNamesIsNULL=1 to abort a connecting client. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
perf/x86/intel/pt: Fix stop/start with no update
If pt_event_stop() is called without PERF_EF_UPDATE flag, then
perf_aux_output_end() is not called. A subsequent call to pt_event_start()
will call perf_aux_output_begin() again which violates the rule against
nesting and triggers a WARNING in perf_aux_output_begin().
Originally, pt_event_stop() was never called without PERF_EF_UPDATE,
because the only code paths to do so are from event overflow, and Intel PT
does not do that.
However the introduction of group throttling by commit 9734e25fbf5ae
("perf: Fix the throttle logic for a group") meant that an Intel PT event
could be throttled if it was part of a group. Throttling calls PMU
->stop() / ->start() callbacks without flags.
An example is when AUX area sampling is used. The following commands
hit the issue:
echo 10000 > /proc/sys/kernel/perf_event_max_sample_rate
perf record -F32000 --aux-sample -e '{intel_pt//u,cycles:u}' \
-- bash -c 'for i in `seq 1 100000` ; do true ; done'
Use PERF_HES_UPTODATE to track whether perf_aux_output_begin() and
perf_aux_output_end() are balanced. A cleared PERF_HES_UPTODATE bit
indicates that an AUX output context is still open.
Amend pt_event_start() / pt_event_stop() accordingly so that begin/end
stay balanced:
- In non-snapshot mode, stop() always closes the buffer (the buffer may
have run out of space, and that accounting is done by the update), so
a following start() opens a fresh one as before.
- In snapshot/overwrite mode, stop() without PERF_EF_UPDATE leaves the
buffer open so that pt_event_snapshot_aux() can still copy from it,
and start() then only re-enables tracing instead of calling
perf_aux_output_begin() again.
Note that pt_event_del() calls pt_event_stop() with PERF_EF_UPDATE flag set
(as is required by the documentation), so a final call to
perf_aux_output_end() is assured. |
